Education Centre
This building is owned by the Isle of Wight Council and is available to hire out to all Youth Organisations, Schools, Voluntary Sector Youth Organisations and Council Departments. The buildinge is the Old Village Primary School and is a self-catering residential centre. The main school building is divided into dormitory accommodation for 32 young people (guests) and 6 staff; the old school canteen is now the kitchen and dining area. There are two dormitories which sleep 18 males and 14 females in bunk-beds and staff accommodation for 6 in two, 3 single bedded rooms. There are showers and toilets in each dormitory and a staff shower/toilet Rooms which is Disabled Compliant. Duvets and pillows are provided but guests need to bring their own sheets and pillow cases, or sleeping bag. The kitchen area is fully equipped with utensils etc, a large fridge, a freezer, microwave, a walk-in store cupboard and cooking is by electricity. Their is also a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a drying room which is of a reasonable size and is fitted with an efficient humidifier. The dining area also doubles as the general meeting/work area. There is a white board, television and a slide projector and a number of microscopes are also available for field study use. A phoneline is available which can make and receive calls and groups are welcome to connect their own equipment up for internet access during their visit (cost of calls will be passed to hirer). Outside there is a tarmac area for bbq's, ball games and a grass field, if dry, can be used for camping and games. There is also ample space for car parking. The centre is located about 15/20 minutes walk to the east of Llanbrynmair village which has a post office/village store and pub. The nearest major towns being Newtown, with a Morrisons supermarket, and Machynlleth with a Co-op as well as a wide range of other shops. The Centre can be booked through the Youth and Community Service by Island schools and youth groups anytime of the year.
